Kidskate-Learn to Skate Program Outline

Program Overview: Our Learn to Skate Program is designed to help children aged 6-12 years old develop their skating skills in a fun and supportive environment. Whether your child is a beginner or has some skating experience, we have the right group to match their skill level.

Time and Dates:

  • Dates: Sunday's Oct 20th-Dec 15th
  • Time: 4:30-5:10pm
  • No Skating Owen Sound Sunday November 17th due to hockey tournament 
  • No Skating Owen Sound Sunday November 24th due to hockey tournament 

Location: Julie Mcarthur Regional Rec Centre 700 10th Street East

Program Structure: Skaters will be divided into groups based on their ability levels:

  • Beginner: For those who are new to skating.
  • Intermediate: For those who have basic skating skills and can move on the ice independently.
  • Advanced: For those who have advanced skating skills and are ready for more challenging techniques.

Instructional Approach: We incorporate a variety of engaging methods to teach skating skills, including drills, games, and music, ensuring that children remain excited and motivated to learn.

Session Format: Each session is structured to include the following:

  • 10-minute Instructional Warm-Up: Skaters will participate in dynamic warm-up activities to prepare for the session.
  • 10-minute Skating Skills Lesson: Our experienced instructors will teach fundamental skating techniques appropriate for each group’s ability level.
  • 10-minute Practice Drills: Skaters will engage in practice drills to reinforce the skills learned during the lesson.
  • 10-minute Game and Play Time: Skaters will have the opportunity to practice their skills through fun, skating-related games and activities.

Equipment Needed:

  • CSA approved hockey helmet with cage
  • Skates
  • Mittens or gloves
  • Warm, non-restrictive clothing that is easy to move in
