Learn to Play Program Description
Program Overview: Our Learn to Play Program is the perfect next step for skaters aged 6-12 years old who are moving well on their own and want to get ready to play hockey, or are new to hockey. This program is also intended for skaters who may have had a year or two experience playing hockey but need to improve and catch up to their peers. This program focuses on developing the essential skills needed for hockey in a fun and supportive environment. The learn to play program is a stepping stone for our Power Skating Program.

- Dates: Mondays Oct 28th-Dec 18th
- Time: 3:05-3:50pm
- Location: Rim Park 2001 university ave east
Program Structure: This program is intended for skaters who are confident on the ice and are ready to take the next step towards playing hockey.
Instructional Approach: We incorporate a variety of engaging methods to teach hockey skills, including drills, games, and music, ensuring that children remain excited and motivated to learn.
Session Format: Each session is structured to include the following:
- 10-minute Instructional Warm-Up: Skaters will participate in dynamic warm-up activities to prepare for the session.
- 10-minute Skating Skills Lesson: Our experienced instructors will teach essential skating techniques necessary for hockey.
- 10-minute Puck Handling and Passing: Skaters will learn and practice key puck handling and passing skills.
- 10-minute Game and Play Time: Skaters will have the opportunity to practice their skills through fun, hockey-related games and scrimmages.
Equipment Needed: Full hockey equipment is required, including:
- CSA approved hockey helmet with cage
- Hockey skates
- Hockey gloves
- Shoulder pads
- Elbow pads
- Hockey pants
- Shin guards
- Hockey stick
- Mouthguard
- Jock/jill

Choosing the Right Program:
- Skill Assessment: Consider your current skating ability. If your child is confident in basic skating skills and ready to learn hockey-specific techniques, the Learn to Play Program is an excellent starting point. For those who have mastered basic skating (such as stopping, skating backwards and turning) and are looking to improve their speed and agility, the Power Skating Program provides targeted training to elevate your game.
